Why does the computer slow down when more than one program is on?

A likely cause is that you have insufficient RAM. This means that your computer doesn't have enough simultaneous memory to run multiple or complicated programs. RAM memory only works when the computer is on and is used for storing short-term data while running programs.
Also, there could be another fault with the computer that is causing the slowness which is undetectable from this location.
