Why should an organisation use a computer system?

If you mean a business or organization similar to a business there are several advantages to using computers. Paperwork takes up incredible amounts of room whereas data takes up only the digital space on a hard drive. Also, if you have a great deal of client information, it can be searched in seconds as opposed to minutes or even hours going through files by hand. Computers can also have applications that train newcomers to an organization instead of placing a resource drain on the company by having employees that have to divert their own time and effectiveness to teaching someone.

On the other hand, they can be expensive to maintain properly and there's always the threat of a virus that can wipe your whole database. This can be averted with enough caution though, so it's not that great of a worry. -Jonathan C. Holcomb

Computers allow the handling of large amounts of data very quickly, such as a membership list, mailing list, or other database. Accounts receivable and Accounts Payable are handled much easier with spreadsheet programs, which can calculate interest, depreciation, and other variables automatically. Computer Aided Design is used in many engineering companies, statistical analysis is another computer application commonly used by organizations.

Computers can sort data quicker than humans. However the computer cannot decide what the next right business decision is.
