There are three things that your business will need to set up a basic network. You can do this on your own if you want to and you will save a fair bit of money. Any tech support team that you have should be able to handle the work with ease. If you need to have a larger, more complicated network put in place, you may want to contact a company who can come in and make sure that the job gets done right. This is the place to start, however, since you can always expand from here as your business grows.

The first thing that you will need is a server. This is a computer that is specially made to hold a lot of information. It is very powerful. Some servers sit upright like traditional computers, but others slide into racks so that they take up less space. Some of these are very small in physical size, but do not underestimate the amount of information that they can hold. Many businesses will have multiple servers all linked together, but you can start with just one if you do not need to store that much information yet.

The next thing that you will need is a computer console. In essence, this is just a desktop computer with a monitor. It will be very similar to the computers that your employees will use in their offices. This one will be different because it will stay in the server room, though, and it will be used exclusively for working on the servers. This will be the machine that you use to get to all of the information no matter which server it is on. Some of these can mount to the same racks that hold the servers, making for a very compact design.

After you have those two things, you will just need to connect them together with a server console switch. This is a box that can accept many Ethernet inputs from the servers. It will then have a lone output line that will run to the console. This gives the single console access to all the servers at one time. You will not have to unplug it from one and hook it up to the other. You can also expand this outward to allow all of your employees' computers to tap into the network through cables or a wireless router.
