yes, they are, if you love to read. They have a backlight so that there is no glare when you are reading too. I would suggest getting a case for it for traveling. It is very lightweight and portable. Books are very cheap too. Great Buy for someone who loves to read!

Some say no: Many people may agree with me that they are not. It is wasting a whole load of electricity and if a book is really special then you would buy it as an actual book instead of in a Kindle which can get ruined easily and is not nearly as beautiful. You can make hundreds of handwritten notes in books that can be stored there for decades and in Kindles that is not really possible. Some people say that Kindles are much easier when travelling than books but then you can just use it as a back up when there are too many books that you are taking with you and even then you are just wasting money. Also, if there is, for example, a book that you read when you were little, you can't show it to someone else when you are older because, firstly, little children would find a Kindle too complicated to read with in the first place, and secondly, as I have already mentioned, you can only keep a Kindle for as long as you could keep any other electric device for, like an iPad.

You can take notes on the Kindle without marking up your book or wondering where you left your scraps. As an avid reader, I will finish up quite a few books in a short period of time. Before I had my Kindle, I couldn't read anything new until I had a day I could get to the bookstore or library. With a Kindle, I can just download a new one right then. Both of my children have Kindles, and use them with no problems. When a new book comes out, I can preorder it for them, and it just appears on their device when the release date arrives. Your library is stored forever, and it can be read from other devices (laptops, iPhones, iPads, etc) by just logging in with your account. You can also share your library with friends. Also, as someone that is a heavy reader, I have five bookcases in my living room taking up space in a small house. I have been slowly packing up my books and downloading them on the Kindle instead. It is giving me room to move again, and doesn't collect dust. The main books I buy now are just ones I really love and want to see on my shelf. Kindle eBooks are almost always less expensive than in print ones, and many are even free (legally). The Kindle also downloads and plays audiobooks, comic books, and mangas. There is a lot of flexibility. My opinion, printed books for special things you want to see on your shelf, Kindle for mass reading.
