Are rats hard to take care of?

It all depends on their health. They tend to be sickly if they are from a pet store. Get rats from a breeder if you can! The things you have to do are, set out fresh food and water twice a day, clean the cage one/two times a week, and give them lots of play time! If they do get sick, you will almost certainly be in and out of the vet's office all the time. And there will be alot of complicated medicine.

Well, if you take good care of them them they are. Of coarse, if you get a big cage and put in a big wheel for them, you will be up all night. I have two pet mice that run on their wheel all night! If you don't take it out, you will loose a few hours of sleep. But rats don't need a wheel to live with you. Just playtime out of the cage with you is enough to keep them happy. Hope this helps.
