I am looking for an electric typerwriter that has a separate screen on which what I might be typing in a letter can displayed. I currently have a Brother which has the feature but feel it's about to 'give out."
Please respond to dsdixon@worldnet.att.net
Thank you, Dean Dixon
Smith Corona no longer produces typewriters. They have not produced typewriters for over ten years. Unfortunately, the likelihood of there still being a Smith Corona typewriter that has never been used before is very slim. There is nowhere that one can purchase a brand new Smith Corona Electric Typewriter as museums don't sell their items.
I have been selling typewriters for the last many decades. I have sold and am still selling all brands of portable and standard typewriters. Some of the popular brands particularly in India are : Godrej, Remington, Facit, Brother, Olivetti, Olympia, smith corona, Royal, Underwood etc. contact me - classictypewriters.universal@gmail.com.
Based on my own experience, people were still using typewriters into the 90's. Not because it was cool, but because computers were still pretty lame and not everyone had one.
Yes
I have a Smith-Corona electric typewriter called a "Coronet Super 12" still in the case. It is blue in color and still works. In excellent condition. Was wondering the value of this typewriter and what would be the best way to find a buyer? Thank you, Pam Burkholder
Most manual typewriters were developed around the 1860s. However, they are still in circulation and are popular amongst collectors. They still retain some value.
Manual typewriters are entirely mechanical and do not require any electricity. There are some battery-powered portable electric typewriters, but I do not believe that any are still being manufactured.
In 1870, typewriters were still a relatively new invention, having been patented in 1868. Estimates suggest that there were about 5,000 to 10,000 typewriters in use in the United States at that time. The majority of typewriters were owned by businesses and professional offices rather than individual households. As their popularity grew, typewriter production and ownership increased significantly in the following decades.
I do not know if they are still in business. I have a receipt from when my father took his Smith-Corona in for servicing back in Dec' 1985. Address and phone # is : EANES OFFICE MACHINES CO. 2225 N. Pershing Dr. ARLINGTON, VIRGINA 22201 Phone # 522-7941 (Sorry I do not the prefix) Give this place a try!! Best of Luck.... Richard
No: They still had quill pens.... sharpened quill feathers dipped in ink.
It has never stopped. Many people still use typewriters.
The value of a collectible military rifle will be driven- in a large part- by the condition. $700 to $1000 for a good specimen that is still in the military configuration (not "sporterized")
