Simply put, as you put more and more information onto your computer it takes up space on your hard drive. So when it says for example that you have 40gb space free, then this is how much more information you can put onto your disc before it is full.
go to my computer and click any drive.for eg. C drive.right click the c drive icon,choose properties.the disk space in your computer will be shown in the form of a pie chart.there is also an option called disk clean up to clean up the disk.

The space on the hard disk is full delete some data from the hard drive it will be ok or add more hard disk in the system

Hard disk formatting means preparing new space for data storage. This is by creating tracks and sectors in the disk.

Right click on My Computer, Select the Manage option. Locate the Disk Management option in the Managment window, this displays the available disk drives. If unpartitioned space exists it will be displayed as such. By creating partitions in that unused space you may 'add' disk space. If no unpartition space exists. Buy another hard drive.
