Apple's configuration options for the MacBook go up to a 500GB (5400-rpm) hard drive. The problem will be finding a suitable 2.5" 1TB drive. There is a kit available that gives you 2 500 GB drives which replaces the MacBook's optical drive with a second 500GB drive giving you 1TB.
Apple provides instructions for replacing hard drives. (See links below)
The hard drive should install and format just fine. However, if you're looking to use the pre-installed Mac OS X and software from the newer MacBook Pro on the older MacBook, it probably won't work well, if at all.
Upgrading a MacBook Pro hard drive for what ever reason is actually fairly easy. First, collect all your materials. You'll need; a new 2.5" HDD or SSD drive, ext 2.5" USB enclosure, #00 Philips screwdriver and a T6 screwdriver. Next you'll need to clone your hard drive. After, open up your laptop and then put it all back with the new posts and drive.
USB sticks vary in data storage from 2GB to 32GB. Many external hard drives are 250GB, 500GB or 1TB, and are often more cost-effective.
Most USB hard drives will work with a Mac. Many will work out of the box (the box will mention Macs somewhere) others will need reformatting.
It has to be a 2.5 SATA drive but apart from that it can be any drive. Faster spinning drives generate more heat and will deplete the battery slightly faster than a slower drive. Apple has guides for disc replacements (See links below).
Yes, easily. Put your iTunes on a disk or flash drive and insert it into the macbook. All of your iTunes should easily be transferred and usable.
The MacBook will need to access the disc from the disc drive of another computer on the same network (See links below).
