Let me answer this question in a couple of ways that may be relevant to the intent of your question.
First, yes, the Core i7-920 CPU may be used in a laptop, just as any other CPU may. All that is required is that the motherboard be designed for it and have the ability to dissipate the heat it generates effectively.
Next, can you replace your current CPU with a Core i7-920 in your laptop? Probably not. The laptop was designed around a certain CPU and the i7-920 is probably beyond its operational specifications in regard to the amount of power supplied for the CPU's operations, the ability to dissipate the heat generated by its operation (take note of the size of the heatsink and fan that come from the factory with the i7-920), and the fact that the desired CPU requires an LGA-1366 socket in which to mount. Most modern laptop CPUs are soldered to the motherboard and therefore not field-replaceable, most definitely not field-upgradeable. To remove the CPU that is surface-mounted requires special equipment and training, not something you can pick up in the garage or high school computer club.
The best advice that I can give you is what I give to my clients: if you want to upgrade your laptop's CPU, upgrade your laptop to a newer model. (This is also part of my issue with game consoles: the technology inside them is "stuck" at that level until a new console comes out to supersede it. Glory be to desktop computers!)
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line. If you happen to be in northeastern Kansas, let me know and I will be glad to speak with you through my store.
Intel core i7-920
Well both of these are good proceesors. But the i7 has 8 cores unlike the quad which has 4. So if you have money I would prefer the Intel i7.
I7
the i7 920 has 2.67 GHZ with 4 cores and 8 threads, and the i7 940 has 2.93 GHZ with 4 cores and 8 threads. both can be overclocked easily. but if you are not planning on overclocking, the i7 940 is faster.
1066
Yes, they function with the same processor.
The Core i7-920 runs on the LGA 1366 socket, with a clock speed of 2.67 GHz and a power consumption of 130 watts. A recommended replacement is the Core i7-950, at about $300 from Newegg. It has a 3.06 GHz clock speed and a power consumption of 130 watts, which makes it an ideal replacement for your i7-920.
One could find information about an i7 laptop by going to Best Buy or visiting them online. Another option would be to call Intel's customer service to see which computers are being offered with an i7 processor.
the intel i7 is a computer processor in the intel i series of processors in the i series of processors is the i3, i5, i7 and i9 if you want more info check out intel's website
Intel is a combination of two words: Integrated and electronics. The 'i7' section is just the model for a CPU that has been made by Intel.
I hear that the latest computer processors and the best are made by Intel. The newest with some good reviews right now is the Intel Core I7 processors.
Yes. You can upgrade your Dell XPS 400 Intel Pentium D to Intel core i7.
