Peripheral devices are typically classified into two main types: input devices and output devices. Input devices, such as keyboards and mice, allow users to enter data into a computer. Output devices, such as monitors and printers, display or produce the results of computer processes. Some devices, like multifunction printers, can serve as both input and output devices.

An input device is basically any device or peice of equipment that you connect to a computer ect that sends data into the computer to be processed. The two main types of external hardware are input devices and output devices. Input devices, such as keyboards and mice, allow users to enter data into a computer, while output devices, like monitors and printers, display or produce the results of computer processes. Together, they enhance the functionality and user interaction with computers.
The two most common are a printer and a screen. CD /DVD burners can be considered output devices as well as input devices as can flash drives.
The mouse, keyboard and microphone are all methods of input - as are storage devices such as memory stick, floppy disk, CD. I'm not sure if that's what's meant by "receive input"
