Fancy mice are very susceptible to illness, and their immune systems are very weak. They are put under a lot of stress when in water because it is too hard for them to try to stay warm, thus resulting in a sick mouse. Remember - they eat throughout the whole day to keep up their energy, so when they get wet much of their valuable life's energy is used to stay warm, and can make them sick.

If your mouse has a love for water, then on a hot day you can fill up a bowl with a centimeter of water and let your mouse play.

Most rats love water, but rats and mice are quite different!
