AND with all due respect to the person below me. You probably wrote that while using an old thunderbird the newest which you can get from the mozilla site has a lot more to it and IS better to use, its worth updating often. Thanks, MissyElliot
No you cannot use Mozilla Thunderbird with hotmail, i have tried everything to my knowledge and nothing has worked, the simple fact is Mozilla Thunderbird does not support http servers except for gmail, (witch doesnt make since), the bottom line is, you cannot add a custom server URL (witch in this case the hotmail server is, http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.com)
To set up your Hotmail account in Thunderbird, use the following incoming server settings: for IMAP, use imap-mail.outlook.com with port 993 and SSL/TLS encryption. If you prefer POP3, use pop-mail.outlook.com with port 995 and SSL/TLS encryption. Make sure to enter your full Hotmail email address as the username and your password.
you dont have to use a google account. I use a hotmail account.
Assuming you're talking about 'Mozilla Thunderbird' - It's an email program... just use it the same way you'd use any other email software.
You can transform your hotmail account into a POP3 account via Izymail (izymail.com). Either you can let Izymail forward your hotmail emails into your Gmail inbox, or you can use Gmail to automatically download your hotmail emails.
Using hotmail and gmail, you can have that setting in hotmail.
Thunderbird cannot access Hotmail directly. It is a webmail only service. The only way to access hotmail with Thunderbird is to use some sort of gateway program to translate between POP and Hotmail's webmail. One such program is "Webmail Retriever" you can find it at: http://www.apocgraphy.com/WebmailRetrieverRed Hope that Helps! OPTION 2 Use WEBMAIL add-ons (they work just like with firefox) You will need two add-ons, "webmail" (main add-on) and "hotmail" (for hotmail, you can set up others for yahoo etc.) You can download add-ons from webmail.mozdev.org Follow the instructions from website (http://webmail.mozdev.org/setup.html) Be careful to install webmail add-on before the hotmail one!
You can use the same hotmail account that you use for your email or you can register a new account with hotmail.com.
You can use your day to day email address. I used my hotmail account. :)

To copy your inbox from Windows Mail in Vista to Mozilla Thunderbird, first, locate your Windows Mail inbox files, typically found in the folder C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders. Copy the .eml files from the inbox folder. Then, open Thunderbird, create a new folder where you want to import the emails, and drag and drop the copied .eml files into that folder in Thunderbird. Alternatively, you can use the ImportExportTools NG add-on in Thunderbird for a more streamlined import process.
this is a very extreme version of thatsafe mode will make it start blank (new session) every time +disable lots of garbage.WindowsThis should not be confused with restarting the computer in Windows Safe Mode!Use the "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)", "Mozilla Thunderbird (Safe Mode)", or "Mozilla Thunderbird (No Extensions)" shortcut in the Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla Thunderbird program folder on the Windows Start Menu. If this shortcut is missing, you can start in Safe Mode by selecting "Start -> Run" (on Windows Vista, use "Start Search" or enable the Run box, as described here) and entering,For Firefox, one of these:firefox -safe-mode"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-modeFor Thunderbird, one of these:thunderbird -safe-mode"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -safe-modeAdjust the path accordingly, if you installed your Mozilla program in a different location than shown above.LinuxOn Linux, you can go to your Terminal and run (for Firefox): /path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-modeMac OS XOn Mac OS X, go to Utilities (in the Applications folder) and open Terminal, then run (for Firefox): /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-modeAnd for Thunderbird, this is the line to run in Terminal:/Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -safe-modeIf you have installed the application to another location, modify the path as such. It's the "-safe-mode" command line parameter that's crucial here.
Well, Windows Live Messenger is already installed on your computer. You just need a Hotmail account in order to use it
