Character - a letter
Field - a group of characters. Like letters make up a word.
Record - a group of fields describing a single entry. Like if we put you into a phone book we would use your name, address and phone number (the fields) of you record.
File - a group of records. Like the A's in the phone book.
Database -groups of related files. The phone book.
A hierarchy includes different levels of authority or importance within an organization or system. Each level has its own set of responsibilities and decision-making power, with higher levels typically having more authority than lower levels. Hierarchy helps to establish clarity in reporting relationships and promote efficient communication and decision-making.
A ziggurat typically has three to seven levels or stories. Each level represents a different tier and holds significance in the hierarchy of the structure.
The biological hierarchy refers to the different levels of classification from domain to species (eight levels). The three domains are Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya, while the types of species number in the high hundred thousands or low millions. Each organism can be classified into a race and then taxonomically into species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, and then domain.
A hierarchy is a list of ranks, each more important and more respected than each other.
Nested buffers refer to a situation where a system has multiple levels of buffers or storage spaces within each other. This can create a hierarchy of buffers, with data passing through multiple stages of buffering before being processed. Nested buffers are commonly used in computing systems to help manage data flow and optimize performance.

They all describe data set or data sets, hey tell you how far apart they are from each other.
Treemaps are important to programmers because they create a visualization of the program. It displays data in a hierarchy using rectangles that are nested inside of each other.
A control account & work package are terms used to describe the levels of work that are part of the WBS
In mathematics, "layers" can refer to different concepts depending on the context. In topology, layers can describe the different levels or dimensions within a space. In data analysis or machine learning, layers often refer to the hierarchical structure of neural networks, where each layer processes and transforms data. Additionally, in educational contexts, layers may represent the various levels of understanding or complexity in mathematical concepts.
An hierarchy can be a set of values or of sets such that each one is bigger than one preceding it.
