Yes.. it reduces the time taken by the Hard drive to search for a file . thus, improving performance..
when you delete files and copy/make new ones.. they may appear sorted ( as in folders and disk drives).. but inside the Hard drive they are not in the same place but scattered over the magnetic disks (platters).
So when you open a program.. the hard disk has to look for the essential files all over the platters and hard disks have 1 - 3 platters.. so searching all of them is time taking
after the Defrag all the files are organised and when u open the same program the hard drive has to look only in one location to get all the essential files..reducing access time.
Disk defrag AKA Disk Defragmenter is a way to reduce clutter and to "defragment" files. This essentially makes your computer faster in the sense that it can load files faster. This program also compresses files and clears up small amounts of hard drive space.
Disk Defragmentation
Double-click My Computer, right-click the disk to defragment, and choose Properties > Tools > Defragment Now.
The same way you defragment a normal PC hard drive. Hook it up, right click the drive in My Computer, go to tools, an among, disk clean up and error checking, there should be the option to defragment it. Once your there, just click defragment.
There are several components within a computer that help computer to go faster and more powerful. -Processor (CPU) - Memory (RAM) - Hard Disk.
To organize the way that files are stored on a computer disk, so that all the information belonging to a file, is stored on a single contiguous area on the disk.
In Windows, go to Computer or My Computer and right-click on the drive that you wish to defrag. On the context menu, select Properties. Then tab over to Tools and select defragment. If you run into trouble, then scan the drive for errors. That is found in the same place where you load Defrag. If you still have trouble, then scan and defragment in Safe Mode. Or you can install a program such as Defraggler from Piriform and use it to defrag the hard drive.
Well... it's pretty simple. Put a disk in a drive and use it for the disk's purpose. The disk drive gets fragmented from internet cookies and causes computers to run slow you defragment them to make them faster and more responsive
defrag 1. Open My Computer. 2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties. 3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now. 4. Click Defragment
First you disk clean, then you disk defragment. Both are under the System Tools. To get to System Tools, click on Start, click on All Programs, click Accessories, move over to System Tools, then click on Disk Clean. Do the same for Disk Defragment. This should be done after purchasing a new computer, and once every 3 months as maintenance. To really boost performance, you WILL have to purchase upgraded RAM that "fits" and does not exceed manufacturer specifications.
