A temporary memory is one that loses its contents if energy is cut off. This is normally some variety of RAM.A permanent memory is one that maintains its contents, even without a permanent energy supply. This includes hard disks, CDs, DVDs, and flash drives.
Note that the contents of "permanent" memory can still be changed, or damaged.

Magnetic storage:Yes magnetic tapes are permanent storage and are the best permanent storage. These are very slower storage but are very cheap storage then RAM or other kind of memory.

Temporary storage is usually referring to RAM -- Random Access Memory. Data stored in RAM only exists while the computer has power (nothing is saved).
Temporary storage in a computer is designated as RAM (Random Access Memory), and gets reset every time the computer is shut down; unlike permanent storage (Harddrives, Flash Drives). RAM allows a computer to run programs without bogging down the harddrive, which is much slower by comparison.
