Skype allows you to call with people all over the world. Before Skype people on business trips in other countries had to use landline or cell phones for group meetings and calling to other countries would be expensive. Using Skype is free and can avoid all those out of pocket charges.

You can connect it to your cellphone (BluePhoneElite for Macs) or you can use VOiP (internet-calling) with Skype or any other network (this costs money), but Skype allows you a couple of free calls per account.
You can, but it may cost money. Try Skype!

A lot of things can be rich but for the consumers it is free. Markets buy skype and sell the cameras but skype is a free communication device. The skype inventors get the money the market pays them. Hope I helped. :)
You can have a Skype account for free, and talk with other Skype users for free. If you want to use Skype to call regular phone lines, there is a cost for that - but no monthly fee.
Yes, I believe so. But the first call is free.
No, you would have to buy a subscription/minutes in order to make Skype calls to normal phones (that's how they make money).
To make a test call with Skype, one must first ensure their speakers are plugged in and on. After signing in to Skype, one can make a test call by selecting Skype Test Call on ones contact list. The contact may be listed as Echo or Sound Test. Complete instructions on placing test calls and other useful information can be found on the Skype help page.
At this time, no, Skype cannot call Oovoo. I wish! They currently use different protocols, and thus cannot call each other directly. Though Oovoo has some sort of work-around that lets you access your skype contacts, I think. Hope this helps!
