Good mice cages

Well, yes. Mice need cages. I find that the best cage is an aquarium. My mouse, Aurora, is extremely active so her large tank fits her well. Cages with bars are good for climbing, but mice can squeeze through very narrow spaces so WATCH OUT!!! :-) Habitrails are... okay, but mice will probably chew through the plastic over time. Plus, habitrails are hard to clean. Basic aquarium cage accesories include the following: # Exercise wheel - Mice LOVE exercise wheels!!! Don't get plastic (easily chewed unless it's really good) or metal with bars (might damage the tail of a running mouse). Aurora's wheel is made of small metal squares and she ADORES it! :-) # Food dish - Doesn't have to be anything special. Just beware: Mice love to knock things around! # Water bottle - If you got an aquarium, make sure you have a suction cupped water bottle that's easy to get water out of. Mice are mighty, but not that strong! # Cage topper - I have a wire mesh top for my aquarium. Mice are amazing jumpers and they love exploring. Tops for cages are essential! (Make sure they can breathe through it!!! # Ladder - One of my mouse's favorite toys is her trusty wooden ladder. The toy itself was made for parrots, but the perfectly spaced rungs were a challenge for a while, but now she's a rocket when it comes to climbing! # Hidey huts - This part is easy. Just take an empty box (Cheez-it, crackers, etc.) and cut off one of the sides. Then cut some holes around it so your mouse can explore the top too. To make sure your mouse lives a long life, change around the cage accessories every day. (I do it in the morning and at night). It's hard to change instinct, sometimes impossible, but you can make the cage really boring at night so your mouse sleeps then. Oh, one last thing. TAKE OUT THE WHEEL BEFORE YOU GO TO BED!!! The wheel might seem quiet in the store, but trust me, IT WILL SQUEAK, even if your mouse doesn't! (Aurora makes an extremely soft whistling noise when she's exploring, but that's it!) Plus, it will keep the wheel a treat for your mouse. Hope I helped!

There are several important things to place in a mouse cage. First, you should get the biggest cage you can afford, to make your mouse happy and healthy. Next, you should purchase a bedding, but NO pine or cedar bedding! This is hazardous to your mouse's health. You should put the wheel in the center or edge of the cage. A wheel is important for your mouse, to exercise on. and release his stress. It can also be very entertaining to watch your mouse on the wheel. Sometimes, they even sleep on their wheel. You should put a small bowl in the corner of the cage for food. Attach a small rodent water bottle to the lower bottom of the wall of the cage for the mouse to drink. Put a few chew toys in the cage, and you will own a happy and healthy little pet!

Aquariums are best for mice but make sure to put a wire screen on top so the inventive mouse can't get loose. Plastic hamster cages are also good but if the materials are not strong enough a mouse can chew on the plastic and get out. Avoid cages with metal bars too far apart. If you can fit your finger between a bar then its probably not a good idea as mice can easily squeeze themselves into small places.
