the gun is an old side by side 16 gauge with the words "nitro powder steel" stamped onto the rib. Fletcher Special is the only other marking on the actual metal part of the gun, the butt plate is the only indication that it is an ithaca...any ideas are appreciated
To determine the age of an Ithaca SXS 12 gauge Fletcher Special with serial number 42513, you would typically need to consult Ithaca Gun Company records or reference a reliable serial number database for Ithaca firearms. Generally, Ithaca shotguns were manufactured from the late 19th century until the company ceased operations in the 1980s. If the serial number falls within a known range of production years, that could give you a clearer idea of its age. For precise dating, contacting a firearms historian or expert familiar with Ithaca shotguns is recommended.
