Nope. Deleting a shortcut is just that - deleting the shortcut. The program is not affected.
"Favorites" on Explorer, provided you have added the preferred websites to the "favorites" list.

The icons with small arrows on them are shortcuts pointing to the actual file. If you delete a shortcut from your desktop, you are deleting only the shortcut pointing to the file, not the actual file from your hard drive.

False. Shortcuts are only icons containing a path to the file. If a shortcut is deleted, the dialogue box that accompanies the deletion attempt will always tell you that you are not deleting the actual program itself.
You accidentally created a shortcut to the image, without actually copying the image to your desktop. The image may have since been moved, which renders the shortcut broken, as you have changed the 'pathway' to the image. Open the folder the image is stored in, and drag and drop, or copy/paste to desktop. Delete shortcuts.
