Microsoft included a "Program Compatibility Wizard" with Windows XP for this very purpose. It won't work for all of your games and programs, but it should help with some of them. Just right-click either the desktop icon or start menu shortcut for the particular program, and go to "Properties". As long as it's an executable or a shortcut to one, you should see a "Compatibility" tab. You can change the settings for the individual program there, or follow a link to the help file on how to use the wizard.
Windows 95 cannot be installed from inside a newer version of Windows. You must boot from a disc to install it. Windows 95 isn't compatible with newer computers anyway, and virtually all software that will run on Windows 95 will run on XP, so its a wasted effort.

You would have to format the hard-drive, and do a fresh install of Windows XP. You would also need to re-install all of your software - some of which may not work with XP (since XP is an old version of Windows)
i think when you do the install, windows itself will check what you have and look for updates, it will give you the missing components
In most cases, if a program works on XP, it will work on Vista.
