try this - If the virus is in the system volume information Download AVG from Grisoft.com, it is free. AVG will not pick it up straight away though. Follow the steps in this page and run AVG complete test. AVG should have picked up your virus this time. (You have the option in AVG to run a custom scan where you can set it to scan the system volume information only).

I've lived with PURITYSCAN.U on my PC for months. I think I have just successfully removed it. It was so obvious I cant believe I didnt think of it before. AVG reported that C:\documents and settings\administrator\application data\vb???.exe was infected. Be careful when using MS DOS commands, especially if in step 4 there is more than 1 file listed, with SHR attributes. I took the following steps: 1. Go to a command prompt2. type C:3. type CD \4. type attrib vb*.exe /sThis should list a file in the application folder with SHR attributes (System Hidden Readonly) 5. Type attrib s h r vb*.exe /s6. Now you can use windows explorer to delete the file on my system the file was called vbixx.exe, also remove it from the recycle bin or your AV will still pick it up. To email me, remove 128 from the quoted address. CheersMark Phillips
