Try doing a system restore.
Restore the system from your latest backup or install the operating system from source using the repair mode.
Go to "Start", then into "All Programs", then into Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore, then follow the on-screen instructions.
If it still boots, go to System Restore and roll it back to an earlier point. If you want a full reset, you'll need the Windows XP installation CD since XP doesn't have the built-in "Reset this PC" option like newer versions of Windows.
