You can close the current application on your computer by pressing <Alt>F4. If the application you are using is an MDI (Multiple Document Interface) application such as MS Word or Excel, you can close the current view (page) by pressing <Ctrl>F4. Other possibilities include <Alt>F, then X, or possibly <Esc> by itself. This all depends on the particular application and whether or not it is implemented in compliance with full GUI standards.
