The different generation Kindles are reset using different methods.

The K1 has a tiny hole in the back - use a pin to reset it.

For the K2, use the slider on the top -- slide and hold to the right for 15 seconds, or until the screen starts to blink.

You go to settings then go to device then you will find something that says uninstall device that might resolve your question.

Before unstalling, I would suggest pressing the power (on/off) button for 10 - 20 seconds to see if that will restart it. If not, then try plugging your Kindle charger in to the Kindle and the electrical outlet. That worked for my Kindle Fire not long after I got it about a year ago when I couldn't get it to restart. I got the idea to try that because, every time I had to charge it, the Kindle Fire automatically came on when I plugged it in to the charger.

But I was also doing a 'hard' turn off every time I turned it off instead of just a simple turn off (just do a quick press of the on/off button instead of holding it in a few seconds). I later discovered that doing a hard turn off was what was causing me to have problems getting it to restart.
