If your taskbar (also known as the panel) is missing in Ubuntu, you can restore it by pressing Alt
+ F2
, typing gnome-panel
, and hitting Enter
. Alternatively, you can open a terminal and run the command gnome-panel &
to bring it back. If you're using a different desktop environment, such as Xfce or KDE, the method may vary slightly, so make sure to check the specific commands for your environment.
Go to the software. Right click on it . Then select pin to task bar.
To get the task bar back simply press 'CTRL + ESC'. If this does not work open the task manager select 'new task', and press 'ok'.
It's actually in the task bar, not the start bar. If you right click in an open place on the task bar, select toolbars and then select quick launch, that should put it back.
Right-click a blank area of the task-bar - and select Properties. In the dialogue box that opens - click the button marked 'Customise'. When the new window opens, click the down-arrow next to Power (should be 1st item on the list - and select 'Show Icon and notifications'. Click OK - that will close that window. Go back into the Properties box - and click 'Apply' then click 'OK'. Your power symbol should be back on your task-bar.
All that you have to do is get into the program that you were wanting to put on the task bar, once your in, a little cube shortcut will pop up. Right click on it, a small window will open and it will have a selection that reads "keep in launcher". Click on the geared wheel symbol (may be shown in the top right-hand corner of the top task bar) and click on logout, and click logout on the panel that opens on the screen.
