If you mean Display resolution in Vista Right click the desktop, press display settings and then slide the slider to what you want it to be. If after changing it and nothing comes up DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING! it will change back the way it ways before in 10 or so seconds.

I believe normally when you see a 17 associated with desktops or laptops it has to do with the actual screen size. The 17 measures the size of the screen on the computer and can go smaller or bigger depending on the size of the computer.
