If you break their Terms of Service, you get sent to the "naughty" server list. Most people get sent over to the "naughty" list because they most commonly break the rule of transferring chips. The most common scenario is by having two people go on a table and one person raises the pot and then inexplicably folds so that the chips go directly to the second person. Moderators catch this and identify the two people, then switch their accounts over to the "naughty" server. That way, they've been identified as people who have already broken the Terms of Service, and can keep an eye on them for future rule-breaking before terminating their accounts. You will still have your friends that are in your friends list, but you will never see them online again because they're on one server and you are on the other.
You can tell which Pokerist server you are on by looking at the top left corner of the screen where it shows your username. It will usually display the server name next to it. Alternatively, you can contact customer support for assistance in identifying the server you are on.
