If you're using Windows, this could be caused by several things. 1) Windows is indexing the contents of the pen drive for searching. To disable: # Press Windows key + E to open My Computer # Right click drive icon # Properties # Uncheck "Index this drive for faster searching" (This option may or may not appear. If it does not, then this is not your problem.) 2) Your antivirus software may be automatically scanning the contents of the drive. You should probably not disable this feature. 3) The Autoplay feature may be enabled and Windows is running some program set to run when the drive is connected. To disable in XP: # Start Menu # Control Panel # Hardware and Sound # "Autoplay" # Uncheck "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" To disable in Vista: # Start Menu # Control Panel # AutoPlay # Uncheck "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" 4) You may either have the drive plugged into a USB 1.0 slot, or it's plugged into a USB 2.0 slot with incorrect drivers/configuration settings. (This problem is a bit more complex and should be the subject of an entire question.)
