There is an Expression Builder in Excel, but it not installed by default.
To see if it is installed, goto:
Insert Menu->Object Menu
Look for Microsoft Equation 3.0
If it is not there, Add it From the Office Installer (Office Tools)

The the square root symbol can be displayed by using ASCII code cout<<"press alt251"; pressing alt251 "��"
The del character, #255, has no symbol. It is a non-printing character, so you cannot display it on the screen.
