Chances are you are already looking at it. ;) An operating system is a graphical interface between the a computer user and his or her computer. The three biggest operating systems are Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Most machines will have a sticker on it that verifies its operating system.

If you are running a Windows based operating system, you can easily click the start button on the tool bar, right click the Computer/My Computer button, and select "properties." You will then be able to see the spefic version of the operating system you have (ex Vista, XP, ect).
