What OS do you plan on putting on this computer once its wiped..?? Most (and I would say *all* but Im not 100% sure about Linux) OS disks will allow you to wipe the HD before you install it.
If for whatever reasons that's not going to work, take the harddrive out and attach it to another PC as a secondary drive. And then just open up the computer management mmc and go from there.
I would suggest looking on your computer first as you can sometimes find some built in software to do this for you. If you do not have this software built in you should download it off download.cnet.com ... Rippers & Converting Software as it will do it for you.
