Just deleting it won't get rid of the program entirely, even on Windows 7. You need to uninstall it from your computer. Go to the Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs. Click on Windows Movie Maker v2.6 and choose Uninstall.
You can't edit in Windows Movie Maker. You have to use an external program to get rid of the black areas you don't want prior to importing the media.
You can't do that in Windows Live Movie Maker. It is a stripped-down version of 2.6 and is limited in features and functionality. The best you can do in the program is reduce the volume. Otherwise, use an external audio editor on the piece prior to importing it into the program.
Click on the Get rid of Green Bar link posted in the Sources and related links section below. It will help resolve the green bar issues you are having.
That is a common problem. The only thing I can suggest is to do some computer maintenance on your machine (defrag, full scan, disk clean-up) and get rid of programs, files, folders and such that you no longer need. Then, open Windows Update and check for new updates (you should set this to receive/install updates automatically to ensure patches/fixes are updated and applied.) If Windows Movie Maker is still not responding, uninstall it. Then reinstall it again. This should resolve the issue of unresponsiveness.
What are those red X's ??For those of you who are wondering what those bright red X's are on media in your Windows Movie Maker project... It means the program can no longer locate the original source files used to create the project.Until you Finish/Publish a video in Windows Movie Maker, DO NOT CHANGE/MOVE/DELETE the files. Altering files used in projects prior to publishing/finishing will result in red X's in place of media. If you see red X's on media, you will need to relocate the original files and re-import them into the project again.
