Pick them up by using three fingers (thumb included) to gently pick them up by the BASE of their tail (if you pick them up by the end of their tail, it hurts them and their tail may break off). Handle them quickly and DON'T get nervous or hover your hand over them for ages before picking them up, as this makes them nervous (speaking from experience here).

Place them on the palm of your hand, and keep GENTLY holding their tail if you're worried you'll drop them.
