It depends on what you are trying to achieve:

  • If you are trying to add an image to use as a reference (it will not show in the output renders), go to View (in the menu just above the workspace)-> Image Plane-> Import Image
  • If you are trying to add an image as a background, for instance, and want it to show in the output, add a polygon or nurbs plane (depending on your preference, I suggest use the former) and apply a texture to it with the target image and scale it correctly using the UV Texture Editor (Window-> UV texture editor)
