Boot Camp is the name for the setup assistant that allows Windows to be installed on a partition on an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Windows must be installed on the startup volume. There is no current way to have it install on another drive.

Is it possible to install Linux on a Mac using Boot Camp?

It is possible to install Linux on a Mac using Boot Camp but it can be messy. Option 1: If you have Windows installed is to use the Wubi installer (See links below) to install Linux from within Windows. Option 2: Use Boot Camp to create a Window partition. Boot from the Live CD, run Partition Editor, delete the Windows partition, Run the Installer and install into Free Space. Option 3: Ignore Boot Camp. Run directly from a LiveCD or USB stick. Option 4: Ignore Boot Camp. Run in Virtual Box.

Is Mac boot camp bad for your Mac?

Not particularly. When using Boot Camp it does repartition the hard drive (scary in the unlikely even that it goes wrong) and so you should always make backups onto an external hard drive. But Boot Camp is made by Apple and designed to run on the Mac, so I don't think it's "bad" other than the fact that you'll have a couple dozen less GB of storage for your Mac files.

Boot Camp is part of Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard' and can only be installed on Intel-based Macs. In order to install Boot Camp, launch the Boot Camp Assistant (located in Applications / Utilities / Boot Camp Assistant on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 or later), and follow the on-screen instructions. Boot Camp requires a retail copy of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Windows Vista (copies of Windows on vendor-specific disks like Dell or HP will not work).
