There are numerous ways to lock a folder and it's files. One method, which you can use easily with someone who is not familiar with the method, is the following:

1. Open a directory, such as the C: Drive.

2. Right-Click and goto "New," "Folder."

3. Name the folder - preferably only one word.

4. Open "Notepad" and paste the following: w

ren Will Will.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

(Note: Change "Will" to whatever the folder is named.)

5. Save it as "loc.bat" with quotations inside of the same directory, but not in the folder. Such as C:

6.Open "Notepad" again and paste the following:

ren Will.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} Will

(Note: Rename "Will" to the name of the folder.

7. Save it as "key.bat" in the same directory as the "loc.bat" and the folder, but not in the folder.

8. To secure the contents of the folder, double click on the "loc.bat" file. It may take a few seconds, but the folder you first created should change it's icon to an icon like the Control Panel and, if you click on the actual folder, the folder should contain the same thing as the Control Panel.

9. To unsecure the files, and open it regularly, double click on the "key.bat" file. You may again need to wait a few seconds, but the icon should have changed back to the regular icon and the files should be viewable inside.

(Note: This works on Windows Operating System(s) only.)

Another method, which is even more secure, and could probably pass even those who know the method is here:

1. Goto "Start," "Run," and type, without quotes, "cmd"

(Note: You need to already have a file and folder created. You can do so by going to a directory, such as C: and goto "New," and "Folder," or "Text Document.")

2. Type in the following:

CD C:\Test

(Note: Replace "Test" with the name of the folder you created.)

3. Type the following, but replace the word "filename" with the name of the text document you created:

attrib filename +s +h

4. To display the file or folder type the following command, or course replacing the word "filename" with the name of the file.

attrib filename -s -h

5. To hide a folder - in C: - , while in command prompt, type the following:

CD C:\

6. Then type the following, replacing "Test" with the name of the folder:

attrib Test +s +h

Windows operating system does not offer any solution to that can be used to protect your folders and files. you may give a try to any third party tool that offers solution secure and lock your folders and files.

I am using folder lock , it is good software. The process to lock file is simple here it is:

The locking in Folder Lock is effective enough to keep your data safe even in Windows safe-mode.

Once you're in the 'lock files' menu, you will be able to view your list of locked file(s). If you are using this feature for the first time, this list will be empty.

To get started with locking files. Click on the 'Add' button, doing so will allow a drop down menu to appear, from here you can start adding folders which you want to lock.

Furthermore, you can also drag and drop a folder onto the lock file interface as an alternative means of locking.

Please note that you will not be able to lock system folders, system drives, virtual drives, USB drives, memory cards, cameras, any other external drives, and folders kept on networks.

Once you've locked your folder(s) you'll notice that they have disappeared from their location after exiting Folder Lock, if you don't want your files to automatically lock and hide upon exiting, you'll have to change the security settings from the settings menu.

If you are using a mac, you can right click the folder, and then scroll to the "Get Info" selection. Click that and you will see the dropdown tap called "general." Look down and you will see two boxes with "shared folder" and "locked." When you check "locked," the folder will be locked and will require a password to open.
