The desktop itself is a visual display of the desktop folders that reside in C:\Documents and Settings\(username/all users)\Desktop (unless an administrator has moved the folder to another location) When the computer loads, it looks to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop for items to be displayed to all users and displays those in the main window. It will then look to ../*username*/desktop for personal desktop items to display if there are any.
It could. If you want to save it then go to the save folder and make a duplicate or drag it into another folder and move it to your desktop, Documents or whatever folder.
You can only change the desktop items if they are in folder form (you have to have created a folder yourself ). You can do this by right clicking on the desktop > then new > then folder. Once you have your folder and have given it a name. Right click the folder and select properties > then you should see a customize tab > then towards the bottom of that window should be a section called "folder icons" in that box should be "change icon" click that and you can select an icon of your choice.

The My Pictures folder can be found on any desktop computer or laptop. This folder is generally the location where one can find any saved photos that are stored on the computer. However, it is possible to store other items that are not photos in this folder.
Just drag it and drop it on the desktop. To do this you need to reduce the "My Documents" window by clicking on the center box (double window) in the far upper right corner. Then you place the mouse cursor over the folder you wish to move, click and hold down the left mouse button, then drag the folder to the desktop (now visible since you have reduced the window), then let go of the button to drop the folder on the desktop - simple as that!!If you just want to create a shortcut to the folder (on the desktop), right click the folder and scroll down the list and select "create shortcut".

Click on the folder - that's the installation file. It will 'unpack' itself into a new directory, and place shortcuts on your desktop & start menus. Once it has installed, you can delete that folder from your desktop.
