There are two possibilities (if you are in something other than Word 2007, then you'll have to find the equivalent in your version):
1. Select the Word button...Word Options...Proofing. You should have ""Check spelling as you type" selected.
2. Select all text. Then select the Review tab...Set Language...select your language...select "Do not check spelling or grammar" until the box is empty. While you're here, select the "Default" button to make that your default. Select Ok.
