It is easiest if you take the air filter and its casing off. use a 8mm wrench to disconnect the top of the case. there should be three 10mm bolts holding the bottom of the case to the frame. Once the air filter case is off the speed sensor connection is almost directly under it, slightly more towards the engine, on top of the automatic transmission. A 1997 Tiburon has a pulse generating speed sensor, which means there is only one connection to deal with, but it has two sensors which bolt onto the transmission. To remove the old sensor, press the release pin on the connection, to do this I use a small Allen wrench. It is easiest to follow the lines of the old sensor to find where the two sensors are to be placed. Once the two sensors are found, they can be removed using a 10mm wrench. it may be easiest to replace the far sensor with the driver side wheel removed, or at least the car should be elevated.
To replace the speed sensor on a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon with a manual transmission, first, locate the sensor, which is typically found on the transmission housing. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor. Pull the old sensor out and insert the new one, securing it with the bolt and reconnecting the wiring harness. Finally, check for any leaks and ensure proper operation before finishing up.
If the VSS is defective replace the instrument cluster.
There is an output speed sensor located in the lower (looking into the engine bay) right hand side mounted to the transaxle in the front portion on the top just underneath the air cleaner.
Connector "J", Pin# 04 is the wire for the speed sensor on the BCM(Brain Control Module). I only know this from downloading the schematic from hyundai's web site. I needed this information when I installed my GPS system. Hope this helps you.
To repair the speedometer on a Hyundai Tiburon, start by checking the vehicle's fuses and connectors to ensure they are intact and properly connected. If the fuses are fine, inspect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located on the transmission, as a faulty VSS can lead to inaccurate speed readings. If necessary, replace the VSS, and then recalibrate the speedometer if your model requires it. If these steps don't resolve the issue, consider consulting a professional mechanic for further diagnosis.
just bought one at autozone for $65. Was about the same price as an input speed sensor and looks very similar.

In a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, the rite speed sensor is typically located on the transmission. It is usually mounted on the transmission case, near the output shaft, and is responsible for monitoring the vehicle's speed. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any components obstructing your view of the transmission. Always consult the vehicle’s service manual for specific details and instructions.

On a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon, the speedometer speed sensor is located on the transmission. Specifically, it can be found on the top or side of the transmission case, near the output shaft. To access it, you may need to lift the vehicle and remove any obstructions that might be in the way, such as the air intake or other components. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for precise location and replacement instructions.
The speed sensor is a timy magnetic reed switch located inside the speedometer cluster in the dash. The reed switch is magnetically triggered by a magnet that spins in the speedometer cable.
It's programmed into the engine ECM. It's not a physical object which can be removed.
