Right click the Lync icon in the system try and choose 'exit'.
If you do not want Lync to start automatically everytime you start the computer, go to your Lync client options (the cog in the top right corner).
Go to personal settings and un-tick the 'Automatically start Lync when I log on to Windows' and then click OK.
