Click on the Power Button on the back of your Mac to turn it on or turn it off and reboot it.

For future reference you can find a handbook on it on the apple site. My 84 year old mother got a IMac and was having problems . She wanted my help but I live 35 miles away so I remembered what her Mac looked like, went on the apple site, and found the info for her. Since you know the type of Mac you have getting the handbook from the site should be easy. I had to take a shot in the dark and hit it right.
