You have to update your iPad 2 to iOS 5 if you bought it prior to the launch of iOS 5. You can update now to iOS 6 (and soon iOS 7), by plugging your iPad 2 into the computer you authorized with your iTunes account and waiting for the pop up that will ask if you want to install the new software update. The process should take 1-2 hours.
iOS 7 Can't run on an iPad 1. The hardware is simply not powerful enough to run the operating system. I believe iOS 5 is the newest OS that will run on the original iPad.
