First of all, get game maker 7 or 8 registered.
Then look in the pane to the right of the screen which you use to view the current resources you have.
Down the bottom there should be a green + symbol. Double click on that and you will be presented with a window. You should be able to figure it out from there.

Executables (even compiled by Game Maker) are not possible to edit in Game Maker. To edit it you would have to decompile or disassemble it, or use a hex editor. Game Maker can only edit files such as *.gmk, *.gm81 and older versions of the Game Maker files.
