Type the power required - e.g. 2, then continue typing, even if it is only a space. Highlight the power (without picking up that space), click on FORMAT, then FONT. Tick the boxes for SUPERSCRIPT, OK and all is done.

Why did you need the extra space? Because when you continue typing, you want it to be in the original size, otherwise you would have to go back and set the following text back to normal. (The methodology of worrying about the formatting at the end, rather than as you go can be a timesaver.)
