How does data on a hard disk determine the speed of a computer?

It doesn't actually change the speed of the computer, but it can change how fast the computer 'feels' because while the PC is reading/writing from the hard drive other things are slower. The longer the data takes to read or write, the slower the computer feels. Because of this faster hard drives are often part of performance class machines.

The speed of a computer depends on factors such as CPU and memory as well as graphics, but the HDD can play a serious role in stability and performance. As ANTCPU has researched the new solid state drives to their potential and price range, by late 2008 they may be the real answer to speed and dependability. A solid state drive is simply like a flash drive, but obviously designed to replace the hard drive. Again their basic operation is dependability. They have no moving parts, so that means the ability to protect data within them is already a step in the right direction. To keep the data organized on a current PC running the defregmentation will always spped up how fast programs load on the CPU. They are called upon the click of the icon or in the programs menu, then loaded once found. They are easier to find when files that are erased and then defraged(set back to all zeros and ones). The solid state drives and the next version of Windows will probably save and acces files using flash drives and solid state drives much more efficiently. Already when you use a flash drive on an XP or Vista system the pop up menu askks if you want to use them virtually, but how awkward is a stick, sticking out from the side of your laptop everywhere you go?

If the data on a floppy is a VIRUS or a Worm it would affect the speed of the PC. otherwise data in a floppy does not determine the speed of your computer
