The Cat 5e and Cat 6 ethernet cables are available in 50 foot and longer lengths and have no problem working that distance. For a longer distance I would use the Cat 6 just because it is of higher quality and can use the same ports. I really don't know how far they work only that they will work if you purchase a non custom cable length and have seen a length as long as 250 feet for the CAT 6 cables
1000 Mbit/s
There are primary two different systems. If it is cable then RG6 cable is used. If it is a LAN then Cat. 5 will be used.
Cat 5 is a type or standard of ethernet cable (350 Mhz) and is not as good as the Cat 6 (500+Mhz) which will work wherever you were going to use the Cat 5 ethernet cable and not require replacement as cable/DSL broadband internet speeds increase
It's short for "category five", which is a type of cabling. The "Cat 5" part refers to the technical specifications of the cable, such as the bandwidth. Cat 5 cable is (usually) unshielded twisted-pair.
Either a Cat 5 or Cat 6 ethernet cable will fit the PS3 ethernet outlet. You must also have something to plug the cable into that is connected to the internet, for instance a router or modem.
A Cat 5(good) or Cat 6 (better) ethernet cable plugs into the router and the ethernet slot in the back of the PS3 for a wired internet connection.
The back of the PS3 has a spot for an Ethernet cable to allow wired connection with the internet. Purchase a Cat 5 or Cat 6 ethernet cable long enough to go for the back of the PS3 to the source of your internet connection. Ebay had Cat 6 50 foot cables for under 20$ including S/H.
The ethernet cable needs to be connected to a router or modem and it works fine although I chose to purchase the CAT 6 ethernet cable. The speed test for the internet connection is faster with the ethernet connection than with the WiFi connection and I have never lost a connection like I did with WiFi
ADSL (asymmetrical digital subscriber line) is a protocol that you ISP (internet service provider) use it is a analogue signal. cable normally is a cat 5e or cat 6 in to the modem and is a digital connection (much faster)
VGA cable
You can tell the CAT level (or category) of a cable by looking for imprinted markings along the length of the cable. Look for the number preceded by 'CAT.' That is the category of the cable.
The PlayStation 3 can use either a CAT-5 cable or can connect wirelessly. Typically, it's done wirelessly.
