motor mounts are different, exhaust won't line up,
Fairly straight forward. No engine swap is easy, but they are both small block Chevy's and it will not be that difficult. The Chevy 305 and 350 are the same block just bored out different. they aren't that hard to swap it normally takes about 6 hours if you have all the right tools and a buddy to help just remember where all the bolts came from and if its a manual its best to change the clutch now while its out now!
I have a 1996 Z71 with a vortec 350. It has a new battery and starter but turns over very hard. I can get it to start with a jump but not without. What am I overlooking?

Not really..Check both intakes to make sure all of the plugs for the sensors are the same..You could just swap intakes if the port sizes are similar..
The engine in your truck is a Chevrolet 350 if it a stock engine!

Every vehicle has a different type of horsepower depending on the specifications of the vehicle. The 1999 Tahoe Z71 350 Vortec Engine has a horsepower of 255 at 4600 RPMs.
1990 Chevy 1/2 tons were available with a 4.3L V6, 5.0 V8, 5.7 V8, 7.4 V8, and a 6.2 diesel. Pretty sure the Z71's could have any of those engines. the Z71's have a 5.7 350 vortec. the regular 1990 models that just have the 4wheel drive in them and not the Z71 package have a regular 305. the heavy duty trucks then have a 7.4 454. but as far as the Z71, i have a 1998 Z71 and all my buddies have Z71's and i have not yet ran into a Z71 that didnt have a 5.7 vortec 350 the z71 only referred to the performance package also available in 2 wheel drive the k and v series are both 4x4 the k and r are both engine series of the 5.7 my "90 has the 5.7 Liter 350 but its not a vortec .I've seen carberated versions turbo and throttle body fuel injected 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 , 7.4 gas and 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines all on 1/2 ton z 71s take a look in the junk yard they are very popular there second only to ford
