How long will iPads record?

An iPad will record sound or video until your memory is filled up. Since this memory is shared with all other videos, music and apps you have installed, look at your iPad's Available memory. The speed in which it is used depends upon the program used. More is needed for video. A lot more for 1080p video.

1. Make a note of your Available memory
2. Record whatever for one minute
3. Look at your memory again
4. The difference in memory is how much space it takes up to record one minute
5. Divide your Available memory by this difference
6. This is the number of minutes you will be able to record.

Two contributing factors for CONTINUOUS video recording:

(1) File size: iP(a/o)d restrict your video files to be 2GB or less. If you hit that magical 2GB mark your camera will stop recording. That being said, the higher resolution/the more added video effects on your video, the faster your device will reach the 2GB mark and it will cut off your recording. You can hit "Record" again and it will begin recording again so long as you have available memory.

(2) Battery Life: Most Ipad2 batteries can last about 3 hours worth of video recording and still have memory to spare, but that is of course all based on personal apps and other user content.

The audio recording will depend upon the resolution, but CD quality audio takes up 5.5 Mb per minute in mono, 11Mb per minute in stereo.
