How much hard drive and memory do you need for a high student laptop?

2GB of RAM and 320GB of hard drive space is the absolute minimum for a laptop that a student will use. Getting better specs will allow you to do more at once and store lots more files, programs, music, photos and videos too.

It really depends on what you do and how much you use your computer. If you don't use it much then the minimum is probably adequate, but if you use it often with Word, PowerPoint, and games you probable need about 2-3GB RAM and 300- 400 GB hard drive. If you are more active on your computer with more complex programs such as Photoshop, Indesign, etc. then you will need around 3-4 GB RAM and 600-00 or more, hard drive.

It depends on the user. If you are the type to do Video, and or photo editing, or are into movies and music, than you would want a large hard drive. 500 GB+ for Hard Drive, and 4 GB RAM.

If you are someone who needs a laptop for documents, presentations, work, school etc., then you might not need all of this. You might need only a 160 or 320 GB Hard Drive, and maybe only 2 or 3 GB of RAM.

If you are looking for a gaming computer, you might want a 720GB Hard Drive, and 4+ GB RAM. Depends also what Operating System you are running. Windows vista/7 you might want more RAM than Windows XP. Or if you are running a Mac OSX, you will need different amounts for different uses.

ON AVERAGE you might want 320 GB Hard Drive and 3-4 GB RAM, depending on your processor and operating system.

The more memory you have, the better the computer will run. I would suggest a minimum of 2 gb for XP and 4 gb for Vista or Win7.
