It's pretty simple once you know how. Click on the start button, then click on My computer, when it opens look to the left under System Tasks, then click on View System Information. After it opens click on Computer Name.
Look for Workgroup: WORKGROUP If, it says (workgroup) the computer is a single owned computer and not in a network of other computers. If, it has another name or letters like: USPS then it's in a group or network and a member of a domain.

The DNS server is used to translate an alphanumeric address into an IP address that a computer can understand. As such, the computer will know which domain name to contact.
A Hostname is a unique Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) which contains a domain and a computer name for the purpose of identifying each computer that is used in the internet. It could be one or a group of labels which helps in identifying a computer in the domain name system(DNS) hierarchy. Hope this helps.
To find your domain name or homegroup name on a Windows computer, you can open the Control Panel and navigate to "System and Security," then select "System." The domain name will be listed under "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings." For homegroup, you can check the "HomeGroup" section in the Control Panel, where it will show if you're part of a homegroup and its name.

Domain Name System (DNS).
What we call a Domain Server is a machine that is like a complicated traffic control centre. When a computer joins a network is needs an address. The Domain Server either has an address for it or creates an address for it. The address is important as that computer needs to introduce itself to other computers and the Server needs to know who is connected and who is not.
DNS translates a domain name into an access IP. Every website is hosted on an IP, the DNS servers tell your computer where a particular domain is hosted.
